As a coffee addict, I can only say that I was disappointed from the coffee i found in Porto Alegre. Unfortunately, I still find it difficult to drink the brown liquid that is called coffee in Brazil. It is definitely not an espresso but I admit that as a dose of caffeine it does the work. The second problem is that a fresh good quality milk is a rare merchandise in Brazil, what makes getting a decent cup of cappuccino an almost impossible task.
However, after a while in Porto Alegre, I succeed to find some solutions:
Drinking coffee at home - to have good coffee at home, I bought nice Italian SAECO machine that together with Brazilian Melitta coffee beans (can be purchased at any big supermarket) and Santa Malta Tipo A fresh milk (can be purchased in selected Zaffari and Bourbon shops) - provide great cappuccino and fantastic espresso.
Having coffee out - for me there is only one coffee chain that is worth visiting in Porto Alegre - Press Cafe. This is maybe the only cafe in Porto Alegre that is using Santa Malta fresh milk and that it's "baristas" really know the job. The sweets next to the coffee are splendid as well. as other decent cafes we count Z-Cafe and Cafe do Porto.

Dear Dafi & Dagan,
I am Cristiano from "Café do Mercado" in Porto Alegre. I saw your review about the quality of brazilian coffee.
I would like to invite you and your wife to know our coffee introduce to you our concept and, hopefully, diversify your opinion about good coffee in Porto Alegre. If you already did visited one of our stores, please let me know how you felt.
We are located at tree different sites in downtown and we are specialised in espresso coffee.
One of our "Baristas" was the champion from last year competition and another one was elected as the second one this year.
You can also take our coffee to use at home. I do it my self with my Saeco Incanto.
If you want to, I can also bring you to see our company, where we roast our coffee.
Thanks for your attention and sorry to use your space.

I just wanted to say that I love your site. I hope to visit Porto Alegre sometime between April and August, and your site has been an invaluable resource. I'll likely be bothering you for info as my trip plans get finalized!
JD, thanks for your positive comment. Please don't hesitate to bother us. We hope you'll have a good time in Porto Alegre.
Thanks so much for your blog! My family (wife and 2 sons) and I will be in Porto Alegre from March-July while I am working at UFRGS.
Your blog is a great resource as we prepare for our stay in POA. Even the little things you mention, like the different types of milk, are very useful. I will continue to check back often. Thanks again!
Hi Tom,
March is a good time to come to POA as it gets cooler around that time. Thanks for stopping by and if you have any further questions, we will be happy to help. Happy new year, Dafi.
